Most important historical passage in the Western Pyrenees. A place recognized for being the scene of the defeat of Charlemagne by the Basques when they crossed the Pyrenees in 778. In commemoration of such a historic feat, a granite monolith has risen since 1967.

Collegiate Church of Santa María de Roncesvalles, a former pilgrims' hospital and an enclave of profound epic resonances, in whose long borders it was always considered the most relevant and endearing landmark of the Compostela route.

We will start the walk from Alto de Ibañeta to the town of Bizkarreta / Gerendian. The Pyrenean landscape accompanies us along paths lined with beech and oak trees. The towns of Burguete and Espinal grown along the Camino show us the sturdy Navarrese mansions full of family tradition. The writer Ernest Hemingway liked to rest and fish in this area, after the San Fermin Festival. After the ups and downs and once passing the Port of Mezkiriz, we will reach our end of the stage in Bizkarreta / Gerendian. Transfer to the drivers of each car to Alto de Ibañeta, start of the walk, where the cars are parked.
